Early Intervention Service (EIS)

The Early Intervention Service (EIS) is part of Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust.

EIS provides support to young people aged between 14-35 who appear to be experiencing a first episode of psychosis or a suspected first episode of psychosis.

What is Psychosis?

Psychosis is the term used to explain a number of experiences including hearing 'voices', having unusual and frightening ideas and a loss of energy or drive.

Psychosis is a condition which is receptive to effective treatments and interventions.

If your child or the young person you are looking after seems to be experiencing mental health difficulties it can be a bewildering and frightening time. Getting the young person help early increases the chance of them experiencing a complete recovery.

What service do the EIS provide?

The staff at EIS are trained professionals and experts in assessing, treating and supporting young people in the early stages of a psychotic illness.

EIS assess young people and can offer support for up to 3 years. This may include social, psychological and emotional support, as well as medical input.
