Supporting a Child Changing School
Changing school can often go smoothly but it can also be a worrying and daunting time for a young person, particularly if they are leaving behind their established friendship groups. Having to get used to a new routine and establish a new circle of friends can be a daunting and stressful situation. This may have an impact on life at home and the self-confidence of the child.
If you have concerns that a young person you care about is struggling with the changes involved with moving to a new school, talk to them about their fears and suggest ways of helping them to settle in. For example: Inviting new friends over for dinner or helping the young person keep in touch with old friends via email or letter.
