Young Carers
Young Carers are children/young people under 18 years old who provide care, assistance or support to a member of their family who are disabled, have an illness, have a mental health problem or who are misusing drugs or alcohol.
Young carer’s day to day caring responsibilities can include:
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Shopping
- Listening
- Personal Care tasks
Young people caring for family members can experience high levels of pressure, which can in turn impact on their mental health. Caring for a family member can affect young people, socially, physically, emotionally and developmentally. Young carers can miss out on opportunities that other young people have to play and learn, which can often leave them isolated and alone, afraid to ask for help.
